RE:UP’s unique fashion spread “For the Ages” proves that it doesn’t matter when you’re from, just where you’re at.

Since its first publication, the Middle Signature design section—featuring original pieces of work from the most beloved contemporary artists—has become a staple of RE:UP. This issue marks the first induction into RE:UP’s Middle Signature Hall of Fame, with designers Parra, FriendsWithYou, Huntergatherer, Kelsey Brookes and more getting the nod. And when they weren’t screenprinting concert poster art for Gang of Four, VHS or Beta, Guided By Voices, or Cat Power, the couple from Milwaukee known as The Little Friends of Printmaking designed the cover of this issue, complete with an accompanying foldout poster.

DJ Small Change’s Big Cover-Up column features Sharpshooter cratedigger extraordinaire DJ Sureshot as he gives us a glimpse of his secret vinyl nuggets. New CSS Video, “Rat is Dead”

The five member Brazilian art-music collective CSS is back with their sophomore release, Donkey. Album drops July 22nd on Sub Pop, and we just received this promo video for their first single, "Rat is Dead." Anyone familiar with the preceding Cansei Der Se Sexy LP will immediately note the shift toward, um, we’ll call it musical maturity for now — less on the electro party do-as-you-please style, more on the vocally structured, new wave-sounding, “my name is Lovefoxxx and, yes, I actually sing tip.” But until we hear the entire album, whether or not the new CSS is a better CSS remains open to debate. Though Lovefoxxx is looking as cute and fashionably eccentric as usual, donning a glimmering white one-piece with some type of tutu fabric for the shoulders a la boa style, topped off with a waist length tassel or two down the chest. Gotta give her points for that.

Japanese woman caught living in man's closet

A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.

"We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide," Itakura said. "When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side."

The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

Skater, photographer, Toy Machine founder, Vegan, featured artist of the upcoming Beautiful Losers movie -- Ed Templeton is a creative multi-tasker, and is having his second solo exhibition at the Nils Staerk Gallery in Copenhagen, opening tonight. Ed has been in town downing Carlsberg with the Danes and preparing for the show for the last month with his wife Deanna (the nude below and one of the pieces that will be on display).

If you're in the Denmark area, or will be sometime this next month, the exhibit runs through June 28.

One of my favorite columns, which happens to appear in GQ, is by longtime fashion observer Scott Schuman. He gives men advice on how to dress, how to behave, and generally anything related to taste, comportment and style. He doesn't delve into unfamiliar territory, but keeps his focus on the classic and long standing traditions of proper dress. Reading Schuman is like picking up an etiquette book from the 50s. He preaches sartorial convention that has endured through cultural fads and fleeting trends. Knowing this and understanding where Schuman is coming from, it's easy to appreciate his keen and refined eye. And there's something very real and accessible about his writing. It's authoritative and convincing without coming across as pretentious or condescending -- and when it comes to something as arbitrary and debatable as fashion, this is no small achievement. Anyway, I was surfing the web looking for some coverage of Australian Fashion Week, which just ended today. But when I came across The Sartorialist blog I hardly remembered what I was looking for in the first place. And yes, that's Wes Anderson in the corduroy. Although before my distraction, I did find this great suit by James Cameron from his show today in Sydney. When appropriate, I'm a big fan of no socks with suits (final image).

Ohhhhh, what a party last weekend...in steamy Orange County.

After a WeSC pool party got the kibosh, our group went next door to the Hilton. But after we were blamed for a concoction of fruit, liquid and unidentified powder exploding in a microwave, whilst pumping romantic jams on a hotel breakroom radio...it was leaving time.

So we went to a mexican restaurant bar. We lasted at least 40 minutes before getting tossed.

Then it was off to a shiny-shoe OC club, with most of us still in swimwear. Here I got caught by security...on the roof, alongside the man responsible for much of the evening's depravities. I won't disclose his name, but I will say he was wearing an amazing tie-dye blue unicorn shirt with matching sea foam denim.

We still made it in. But man, I was twisted.

Daft Punk Live @ 02 Wireless Festival in London

Over the top light shows and genre-defining electronic music make Daft Punk one of the best live shows today (well...shows of the summer blockbuster type..). I didn't catch them on their recent North American tour, but everyone I've spoken with says they killed it. Especially the Montreal show.

Last weekend I covered Comic-Con for Complex Magazine. Above is a photo of Melodie Gore (left), a professional pin-up girl. Not only is she a super creative artist type, she's also down to bare it all, Penthouse style.

Melodie was at Comic-Con to promote Headsick, a controversial gore/horror porn outfit. Like, really fucking hardcore, but watch the trailor if you want: Headsick Girls. Just don't say I didn't warn you -- It's pretty much the gnarliest shit I've ever seen (I couldn't watch the whole thing), and even the most extreme porn companies are avoiding association with them.

God bless our constitutional freedoms and all the perverse, fantasy role-playing women in this world.

Levis Button Rings - Limited Japan Release.

A while back, Levis put out these diamond encrusted rings. The bling was overkill and they felt like a weird fit with the brand's image. I tried to find a photo of them, but bottom line, I wasn't backing 'em.

Oh man, these are so good. You can watch about 10 from this youtube link here. I'm claiming "Computer" as my favorite.

After a little digging, I found these were done by Eric Fensler of Fensler Film way back in 2004. There are 25 in total, all in quicktime files on his site, along with some other work he's done. I found this pollen-sniffing image on his updates page.

And Apparently, this dude is an ardent cat lover, too. The photo gallery on the Fensler Film site is dedicated entirely to this exotic siamese. Uh...sweet.

Feeling like a million bucks after my July 4th crusade. I ended up meeting some friends for a late morning surf sesh near Wind and Sea in La Jolla, Ca, and then rode bikes down the boardwalk toward Mission Bay. We had a pretty solid gang.

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons: The OG War of Terror

Captain Scarlet is a science fiction TV show that aired in the late 1960s. The characters were built using a type of puppetry known as Supermarionation. It was created by Sylvia and Gerry Anderson, best known for their Thunderbirds series, which also used Supermarionation. Not that I'm an animation expert; just looked it up on Wikipedia. Go there for the full storyline. It involves a mission to Mars in 2068. The Mysterons declare a war of terror against Earth—world leaders, major cities, industrial and defense establishments.

Cool shit if you're bored and into connecting current social and political topics to the past.

I discovered Captain Scarlet from my good friend Mike Fleury. He has the video below on his Myspace Humanian Page. Mike's a nice guy. You should send him a message and tell him you like 1960s Supermarionation. Here is Mike looking dangerous:

The video features the original theme song of Captain Scarlett and the Mysterons, mixed to some action from the sci-fi series. It's fun to watch, oh, once. At least.
